When Babes the pole dancing chicken on Hungrie’s Stories found out she’s making chicken kebabs she was ecstatic. Pakistani SHEEKH kebabs are the best we think and this ones for all the busy yummy mummies who want easy recipes with maximum flavours. Surely Iftar foods should be about ease?

I love to use @shanglobal easy packs as the spices are already there just shove it in and bring out amazing food for iftar. I know you all love them too because we all use them.

Here’s what you will need, i did a few things my way for perfect kebabs, I only used half the box:
🌿650g boneless chicken or mince
🌿5 garlic
🌿3 birds eye chillis
🌿1tbsp @anchor_dairy butter
🌿1/2 onion charred to release all excess water
🌿1 egg white, no yolks because it froths up
🌿1/2 pack tikka sheekh kebab box

A big pan full of it, Hungry Husband and I can eat the whole lot BUT

Alhamdulilah, we have five other kids to share our meals with. My 9 year old this morning said I will pay you 40p to make me an entire play just for myself 🤪😻

As a big family you can imagine we share everything and our food bills are extremely high. So often it means, we share out our portions and thus calories. Sometimes I worry that maybe I don’t feed my kids enough, especially as they are right skinny little worms whilst we are both.... relatively overweight 😵

But Hungry Husband always reminds me of two things. 1. They eat ALOT compared to other kids, not just quantity but variety wise, they are foodie kids! And 2. The most important of all, a reminder to us everyday and to you guys today that sharing is caring.

Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The food of one person is enough for two, the food of two is enough for four, and the food of four is enough for eight.”

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2059 💙

In this, is encouragement to be sympathetic with food, that even a little food is enough to suffice, and there is blessing in sharing with those present.

So dear brothers and sisters, don’t delay or stop having children because you fear you may not be able to provide for them. There is blessing in having lots of children and feeding them all even if it’s a little.

Reviving Forgotten sunnahs 💙

Some Companions came to the Prophet ﷺ and complained, “We eat but are not satisfied.” He ﷺ said, “Perhaps you eat separately?” The Companions replied in the affirmative. He ﷺ then advised, “Eat together and mention the Name of Allah over your food. It will be blessed for you.” (Abu Dawud)

Likewise, the Prophet ﷺ said, “Eat together and not separately, for the blessing is associated with the company.” (Ibn Majah)

TILAPIA FISH SATNI 🌶

This delectable dish takes a few minutes to prepare and only a few seconds to eat, it’s that good!

For this particular recipe you can use mackerel, tilapia, rohu, Ayer, ilish and grated prawns, crab, monkfish, tuna...

The best way to describe a Bengali Satni is simply put a five minute delicacy, made with ANYTHING you like, with the addition of onion, chillis, coriander and sometimes garlic. The fruit editions are eaten on a hot summers day and the savoury sort are eaten all year round with hot white rice. Many Bengali’s also call these delicacies #bortha - potato being the famous one as well as mackerel.

In Bangladesh, and many United Kingdom homes, families get together and have a “bortha party” where everyone brings and shares their most loved satnis and borthas, often resulting in 20 plus varieties on the table spread.

I think if I ever had a meet and greet I would most definitely host a Bortha party! Wouldn’t it just be amazing.

What’s your favourite Satni / bortha? I love the dried fish hutki ones the most and also lean towards the fruit ones with extra fried garlic Garlic and chillis 😍

There has been many times iv left the house wanting fresh air and ended up at the supermarket because there’s nowhere else to go and no doubt that has been all of us this past year.

Ok so I want to know what’s your favourite Aisle at the supermarket?

Mine changes but I do spend the longest time at the frozen aisle section and quickly run fast if I’m at the alcohol aisle with my kids 🤪 and never enter the confectionary aisle with my kids!! And when at the biscuit aisle, I say no to everything but always end up sulking at home when I drink tea and there’s nothing to dunk😩😩

LAMB KEEMA, ALU & TOMATO

A classic Bengali dish enjoyed by all Bengalis cooked by our mothers. I don’t have my mil around anymore and I miss her food a lot. So spending time in the kitchen trying to recreate her recipes gives me so much joy and pleasure that I can feed him and children and give them the same experience as I did growing up.

He misses his mother very much and food always reminds him of her. If you are a Bengali food page, then no doubt many of your dishes remind me of my his mother.

KEEMA CURRY RECIPE:

1. In a large cooking pot add 1/2 cup oil. I know it’s a lot but let me tell you that a fabulous curry needs a lot of oil so the spices can blend and cook nicely in it. At the end of the recipe you can discard 1 cup of oil. I know you may think I own half of the worlds reserve after this dish but maybe I found a lot of dinosaur reserves and kept it 😅.
2. To this hot oil, add 3 large onions sliced. Brown them until golden. This is a crucial step. Will add sweetness to dish. Add bay leaves, green & black cardamoms, black peppercorns and cinnamon stick to add aroma.
3. Add 1.5kg keema. I use mutton mince. Make sure it’s not too fatty or too lean. Fat adds delicious flavours. Please use high quality mince. I paid £8 per kg. Cook and stir continuously till brown. 10mins. I don’t wash my mince. Add 2 cups water and cook down. 1tbsp each fresh garlic and ginger.
4. Add ground spices with 1tbsp sweet tomato paste: 3tsp hungry spice mix, 1tsp cumin powder, 1tsp coriander powder, 1/25tsp turmeric, 1tsp chilli powder & 1tsp Kashmiri chilli. This is the best combination for 5mins 😇
5. Once the oil separates add 2 cups hot water. Cook down 10 mins. Add 2-3tsp salt to taste.
6. Add 2 cups hot water again, reduce, cook down. Add 3 red potatoes (softer and sweeter). Every time you cook down the oil separates which is a sign for more water.
7. Add 2 cups water and simmer 15 mins with fresh coriander, slit green chillis and the final 5 mins add the most expensive vine tomatoes to add amazing flavours.
8. Dust with 1/2tsp garam masala. Discard oil and Enjoy with basmati rice. I love this so much and reminds me of home.

It’s another day for all of you, but for my kids, it’s their mums birthday.

Hungry husband woke up and requested hundesh but guess what? He’s not even home today as he’s attending a wedding and so he took the boys with him, that’s the best present ever. I love my time alone and peace that comes with it.

When they get back they are in for a real treat.

This is my dream treat!

When he comes home I know he will have a big smile on His face. It may be my birthday but I do everything and give my all for Him and for my kids.

I feel like iv hit the jackpot today 😍

If you have ever had this Bengali delicacy then u know how delicious it is. If you have not then you must try it. There used to be a shop in Brick Lane but it closedown it was called sweet and spicy and they used to sell it and it used to be my ultimate treat but now I can make it by myself.

KEEMA PIE FILLING RECIPE

I share so many meals and recipes everyday, but this one can I just say hit differently! The kids devoured it just like the foxes devoured their @clarksoriginals shoes last night for dinner 😩

If you would like the full recipe for the keema, it’s in my highlights, but for the rest here it is. You must make this filling for your Samosas and pastries this Ramadan inshallah.

If my kids LOVED it then I think you will too. It’s one of those underrated fillings, that don’t look good to capture but tastes so hearty to eat!

💖hungry hijabi’s samosa keema filling 1 bowl full
❤️2 bowl full of boiled veg
💖white sauce using: 2tbsp butter, 3tbsp plain flour, 500ml milk, 1 veg stock pot @knorruk
❤️black pepper
💖herbs eg parsley, tarrogan, thyme or rosemary you decide.
❤️I love homemade pastry but @asda shortcrust did the job
💖egg wash

Get creative with your pie design. Mine is so not Instagram photo friendly, pretty or anything but it’s all going down anyway 🤪

50 years ago, why couldn’t Pakistan just Sit down with Bangladesh and have a button on the bone cook off! See today’s highlights and stories for more

INGREDIENTS:
- 1kg mixed mutton (bengali)
- 4 super thinly sliced onions
- 6tbsp cold pressed rapeseed oil
- 1tbsp grated ginger
- 1tbsp grated garlic
- 2tsp fine sea salt
- 3 bay leaves
- 5 green cardamoms
- 2 black cardamoms
- 1 large casia bark
- 3 cloves
- 1/2 star anise
- 3tsp hungry household mix
- 1tsp chilli powder
- 1/2tsp turmeric
- 3cups water
- 2tsp sweet tomato paste
- 1 cup coriander
- 5/8 pierced green chillis
- 1/2tsp coriander powder

METHOD
1. In a medium steel pot, add oil and heat.
2. Once the oil is hot, but not smoking, add the onions.
3. Brown the onions until golden brown. This should take 10mins.
4. Add the meat, whole spices, ginger and garlic and cook it down for 25mins on a slow simmer.
5. If the meat sticks to the pan add a splash of water.
6. Add ground spices and tomato paste and on a low heat for 10 mins keep stirring so it doesn’t burn.
7. Add potatoes and coat each piece for 5 mins.
8. Add 1 cup of kettle boiled water, bring the heat to medium flame again for 5 mins.
9. Add 2nd cup of kettle boiled water, boil for another 5 mins.
10. Finally add your last cup of water, boil for 5mins.
11. Tune the flame completely to low and add green chillis and coriander with the lid off and simmer for 10 mins on the lowest flame.
12. Turn the curry off and sprinkle coriander powder.

TOTAL COOKING TIME: 1hr 15mins
Recommendation: if you prefer softer mutton meat cook down the meat on step 4, for 45mins instead of 25mins.

HUNGRY HOUSE TOP TIPs:
- Use Bombay pink onions
- Sweet tomato paste is better than purée
- Don’t burn the spices or meat at any stage
- Substitute the coriander powder sprinkle at the end for sprinkle dust available online

TANDOORI CHICKEN🔥🍗

The other day we marinated 3 tandoori birds, which were cut into 4 so 12 pieces in total.

We marinated the birds using my in laws old school restaurant recipe. They used to own one. We let it marinade for 48 hours and enjoyed a delicious meal on the bbq served with roasted vegetables and chickpea pulao. On the feed posted already.

Tandoori chicken as a dish originated in the Punjab before the independence of India and Pakistan. Although tandoor cooked chicken dates back to as early as the Mughal era, the dish is believed to be invented by Kundan Lal Gujral, a man who ran a restaurant called Moti Mahal in Peshawar.

Everything was delicious and the tandoori chicken brought back many good memories.

The key to tandoori chicken is to use bone-in thighs and legs (yay! our favorite cuts) because they have enough fat to stay moist under the heat of the grill.

The recipe for our tandoori chicken restaurant style is as follows. Simply marinate for 48 hours and throw it on a hot charcoal bbq for maximum satisfaction and taste 👍🏻

INGREDIENTS:
🔥3 tandooori chickens cut into 12. Slit each piece with deep cuts.
🔥1/4 cup ginger
🔥1/4cup garlic
🔥 @pataksuk tandoori paste half the jar
🔥1 large lemons juice
🔥2tsp kashmiri chilli powder
🔥optional extra chilli powder to taste
🔥1/4 cup mustard oil
🔥1/3 cup yoghurt
🔥red food colouring
🔥a charcoal grill/bbq
🔥salt to taste 1tsp
