Filled with deep intense emotions, As my little ma

Filled with deep intense emotions,
As my little madam turns four…
Contemplating on what could have been,
As my mother is no more…

I dreamt of life so differently,
I dreamt we would be free.
I dreamt that she would teach us that,
Love was with everyone and me…

To live life without her presence,
Was something that I was used to,
To live without her existence,
Is something that I won’t get used to.

When I turned four, and six and ten
She would get a chocolate gateaux cake.
For all our birthdays she did the same
Treated US ALL the same for goodness sake!

There are things I miss I shouldn’t,
And things I don’t that I should.
Sometimes we want what we couldn’t,
Sometimes we love who we could.

This weekend my little madam turned four,
I thought I would have their Nanny here.
She would try and blow her candles out
And mum would laugh, sing and cheer!

I think about my mum always,
I talk about her still.
She will never be forgotten,
And I know I never will.

My children will grow without her,
They already grew without her here.
Unseen, unheard and unmet
But still loved, still missed and very dear.

To my estranged dearest mother…
Why could we not piecemeal our past?
We are given one shot at this thing called life,
But now this life just did not last.

I’m trying to raise five children
But your silence has left me hurting…
Scarring me, destroying me, pleading me.
Screaming me and anger turned to crying.

Your only daughters daughter turned four yesterday and I just want u to say,
“Happy birthday to you my jaan,
Have an awesome day.”

Estranged from you
What wealth have I gained?
Distant memories
And a heart full of pain…

Each night I sleep
In my bed of sorrow…
There was no yesterday
There is no tomorrow…

Filled with deep intense emotions,

Losing a parent is hard for everyone,
But losing a parent whilst being estranged is a pain i’m struggling to fathom.
Every part of me that aches I relate it back to my mother. Stress and trauma, anxiety and emotions can all affect our bodies, resulting in pain and illnesses… 😔

You wake up and make Handesh, Fob, Nunor Bora & Samosas… and then you go to someone else’s house to visit and eat yet more Handesh, Fob, Nunor Bora and Samoasas 🤣

Getting a first-hand look into each other’s lives has been such a great way of uniting us all through food.

Over the years I have had the privilege of being viewed by strangers who cook my recipes and make that soulful human connection over good food. It really is a culinary experience that has changed me in the most special of ways.

When you eat the traditional dishes of someone’s culture, you get a unique insight into their heritage, essentially we share our history enriching both our worlds!

Ps little madam was terrified so perhaps it’s not a good idea if your little one gets scared easily. Something new I learnt. Turns out dinosaurs are no longer her favourite animals it’s Cats and Chicks 🤪😍

We call the yellow one with lentils, turmeric and coriander kisuri and call this one zaow aka rice porridge!

It’s the perfect tummy comforter!

Ghee is SO GOOD for you did you know? It supports a healthy heart and cardiovascular system. Studies show that using ghee as a part of a balanced diet can help reduce unhealthy cholesterol levels. Ghee is created by removing milk solids.

In Ramadan when we have empty stomachs, it’s easy to enjoy nutritional foods without the junk, that’s if you are well disciplined that is 🤪

No other meal nourishes you from within than this and did you know you should eat this everyday whilst pregnant or healing from sickness. It’s just so good for you! Weaning babies love this recipe !

To serve I was a bit cheeky and fried garlic and red chillis in ghee.

Whilst you are all debating on the name Zaow or Kisuri here’s a quick recipe. Ps stir in the ghee before serving rather than cooking off it’s benefits 😋

➡️1 cup rice washed, broken and soaked
➡️6 cups water
➡️1 large chopped onion
➡️3/4tsp salt
➡️1tsp fenugreek seeds
➡️ghee to taste (add lots) 😋

1. Cook everything in a pot until porridge like consistency.
2. Onions should be fully melted.
3. Stir in ghee and enjoy

To
Make kisuri it’s the same thing with the following ingredients:
- 1/4 cup dhal and 3/4 cup rice
-3/4tsp turmeric
-fresh coriander to serve

TUNA NUGGETS 🌶

Here’s a quick recipe for the upcoming Ramadan Iftars we are all going to be observing in about 9 days Ish! If you love tuna, this is the one for you!

Ingredients:
🐟2 cans tuna in oil
🐟2 thinly sliced onion
🐟1/2 cup sweetcorn
🐟1 cup besan
🐟1/2cup plain flour
🐟1tsp baking powder
🐟2tbsp rice flour
🐟1.5tsp salt
🐟1tsp nigella seeds
🐟1tsp chillis
🐟1tsp red chilli flakes
🐟1tsp turmeric
🐟1tsp coriander powder
🐟fresh coriander
🐟3/4 cup lemonade
🐠oil for deep frying

Method:
1. Discard the oil from the tuna cans and combine everything together.

2. Deep fry and enjoy with tartar sauce or chilli sauce or both!

What a fishy iftar treat!
